Born in Benin, the 66-year-old artist has built an international career spanning more than 40 years and has been recognised as one of Africa’s most influential musicians.

Global musical legacy

Kidjo has earned five Grammy Awards and developed a career that has connected African music with audiences around the world.

Time magazine previously described her as “Africa’s premier diva”, highlighting her influence and enduring contribution to global music.

Hollywood recognition

Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez praised Kidjo’s artistry and international influence, saying her work has inspired audiences across generations and continents.

The honour recognises her contribution to music and culture and marks a significant moment for African representation on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Star-studded ceremony

Kidjo will be joined at Tuesday morning’s ceremony by Oscar-nominated American actor Willem Dafoe and record producer Harvey Mason Jr.

The ceremony will celebrate the musician’s achievements and her decades-long impact on the international music industry.

Inspiring future generations

Speaking when her Hollywood star was announced last year, Kidjo said she was proud to become the first African female singer to receive the honour but believed she would not be the last.

She expressed hope that many more African artists would follow, saying the prospect filled her with joy.
