Ghanas tourism potential goes further than Accra, Cape Coast and Kakum. All 16 regions have attractions that can attract people from within the country and from abroad.
In the Volta Region there are waterfalls and mountains. In Ashanti there is a cultural history. In the Western Region there are beaches. In Ghana there is amazing wildlife. The country has a range of tourism opportunities that are not yet fully developed or properly promoted.
The real chance is to link these places into tourism routes instead of promoting them as separate spots. Travelers could be invited to move from Accra through the Eastern and Volta regions into Oti and then to the north making the trip itself part of the adventure.
Promotion needs to be supported by investment in roads places to stay, clean restrooms, signs, internet, safety and other things that visitors need.
Local communities should be the focus of tourism growth. Young people can get jobs in guiding, serving, transport taking photos cooking, making crafts and creating content.
A countrywide campaign like “16 Regions, 16 Experiences” could show off Ghanas range of attractions using social media and local tourism projects.
Accra can still be the entry point, for Ghana. The 16 regions should become the main places to visit.
