The High Court in Accra has awarded GH₵5 million in general damages against Oliver Barker-Vormawor in favour of former National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaah in a defamation case.
Presiding judge, Justice (Rev.) Joseph Owusu Adu-Agyeman, ruled that all reliefs sought by the plaintiff were granted, except the initial GH₵10 million compensation claim, which was reduced to GH₵5 million. The court also ordered Barker-Vormawor to pay GH₵100,000 in legal costs.
The lawsuit followed allegations by the FixTheCountry convener that he had been offered $1 million by National Security officials to halt his activism. Kan Dapaah denied the claims and filed a defamation suit, seeking damages, an apology, retraction, and a perpetual injunction to prevent further similar statements.
An attempt by the defence to relist previously struck-out filings was dismissed by the court.
