Five Injured in Stabbing Attack at New York’s Penn Station, Suspect Arrested
Five people have been injured following a stabbing incident at New York City’s Penn Station, according to emergency officials. Authorities confirmed that one victim sustained serious injuries, while two others were moderately injured and the remaining victims suffered minor wounds.
The attack occurred around 19:00 EST inside one of the busiest transport hubs in the United States. Emergency responders from the Fire Department of New York reported that all injured individuals were transported to Bellevue Hospital for urgent medical care.
Police said the suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident following a brief manhunt. The New York Police Department confirmed that the arrest was made with the assistance of Amtrak police officers operating within the station complex.
Law enforcement sources described the attack as a random act of violence. Reports from US media indicate that the suspect was emotionally disturbed at the time of the incident.
The stabbing comes at a time when New York City is increasing security ahead of high-profile public events, including an upcoming visit by US President Donald Trump, who is expected to attend an NBA Finals game involving the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
Authorities have announced additional security measures, including a temporary no-bag policy and the cancellation of a planned public watch party outside the arena. City officials say the precautions are necessary to ensure safety during the high-profile sporting event.
