A 35-year-old woman from Orlando has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly opening fire at the Los Angeles home of global pop star Rihanna.

Prosecutors identified the suspect as Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, who is accused of firing a semiautomatic rifle at the singer’s mansion in Los Angeles at around 13:15 local time on Sunday. Authorities said several shots were fired at the property before the suspect fled the scene.

No injuries were reported in the incident, though officials confirmed that people were inside the residence at the time of the shooting. Rihanna and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, were reportedly present at the home when the attack occurred.

Investigators say Ortiz allegedly drove up to the front of the property and fired multiple rounds before leaving in a white Tesla. The vehicle was later found about eight miles away at the Sherman Oaks Galleria, where police located and arrested the suspect.

Ortiz is currently being held on bail set at $1.875 million and faces a possible life sentence if convicted. In addition to the attempted murder charge, prosecutors say she faces ten felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three felony counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper.

Nathan J. Hochman condemned the shooting, warning that such acts of violence in residential neighbourhoods would be prosecuted aggressively.

“Opening fire in any populated neighbourhood is extremely dangerous and puts lives at risk,” Hochman said, adding that authorities would not tolerate such behaviour.

Police are continuing to investigate the motive behind the attack as the case moves forward in court.
