French Prime Minister Lecornu Visits Morocco as Paris and Rabat Strengthen Relations

Two-day talks focus on security, investment and economic cooperation amid diplomatic reset

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has arrived in Morocco for high-level talks aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries as Paris continues efforts to rebuild its relationship with Rabat.

Last month, the African Development Bank ranked Morocco as Africa’s leading country for industrialisation, highlighting its progress in industrial development, export diversification and government-led economic policies.

For France, closer economic cooperation with Morocco could help strengthen trade links and create new opportunities following recent economic challenges. For Morocco, deeper relations with Paris could bring increased access to investment, technology and expertise.

The two countries have historically maintained strong cultural, economic and political connections, with France remaining one of Morocco’s largest trading partners. However, disputes over migration, regional politics and Western Sahara created tensions that affected relations in recent years.

The latest diplomatic efforts signal a renewed focus on cooperation, with both governments looking to move beyond previous disagreements and build a stronger partnership.
