Justin Baldoni and Wife Emily Open Up About “Trauma” From Blake Lively Legal Battle
The long-running dispute surrounding the 2024 film It Ends With Us has taken another emotional turn after actor and director Justin Baldoni and his wife Emily Baldoni spoke publicly about the impact the legal battle had on their family.
The couple shared an emotional five-minute video on Instagram, describing the past two years as a deeply difficult period filled with pain, stress and personal challenges.
Baldoni said they intentionally remained silent while the legal process was ongoing, explaining that they wanted to wait until the right moment before addressing the public.
“We have not spoken publicly for the better part of the last two years, and it’s not because we haven’t had anything to say,” he said.
He added that although they had wanted to share their side of the story earlier, they felt it was important to remain patient while the legal proceedings continued.
Emily Baldoni Speaks About Family Struggles
Emily Baldoni said the experience had left lasting emotional effects on their family but expressed gratitude for the support they received throughout the difficult period.
She acknowledged that being thankful for positive moments did not erase the pain they experienced.
“It doesn’t negate the injustice and the pain that we have also felt in the last few years,” she said.
Emily added that the family had spent time trying to understand how such a situation developed and described the experience as something they had to heal from together.
“There has been a lot of trauma for us to move through as a family,” she said.
Legal Dispute Over It Ends With Us
The legal conflict began in December 2024 when Blake Lively filed a complaint alleging a hostile work environment and sexual harassment during the production of It Ends With Us.
Lively claimed Baldoni was responsible for a campaign intended to harm her reputation after she raised concerns about conditions on set.
Baldoni denied the allegations and argued that the disagreements were related to creative differences surrounding the film.
He later filed a $400 million defamation lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist, accusing them of attempting to damage his reputation.
Settlement Brings Legal Battle to an End
The dispute concluded in May 2026 after both sides reached a confidential settlement.
The agreement ended the possibility of a public trial, with neither side admitting wrongdoing or paying significant damages as part of the settlement.
However, some financial matters remain unresolved, including a request by Lively for legal fees connected to the case, which Baldoni is challenging.
Couple Focuses on Healing and Family
Despite the conclusion of the main legal dispute, Baldoni and Emily said their priority now is rebuilding and focusing on their family.
Justin said the experience changed the way they view what truly matters in life.
“We are healing, and if you’ve ever been through something traumatic, you know the healing isn’t linear,” he said.
He added that their focus has shifted toward their children, loved ones, community and faith.
Emily ended the video by saying they wanted to continue healing, spend time with their children and enjoy life after a difficult chapter.
