The Mother City is preparing for a vibrant weekend packed with live music, comedy and powerful choir performances as Cape Town’s entertainment scene comes alive with a variety of events set to attract audiences across the city.
Music lovers can look forward to the return of Don Vino with the latest edition of his popular “Saxy Vibes” concert series. The acclaimed saxophonist is bringing “Saxy Vibes 8” to the stage, continuing a performance journey that has helped establish him as one of South Africa’s most recognizable contemporary saxophone performers.
Known for blending jazz, soul and modern sounds into energetic live shows, Don Vino has developed a strong fanbase through performances that combine technical musical skill with mainstream entertainment appeal. Over the years, the “Saxy Vibes” brand has grown from a personal creative showcase into one of Cape Town’s well-known live entertainment experiences.
The concert series originally began as a platform for the artist to reinterpret popular songs through saxophone-driven arrangements. Due to increasing audience demand and consistently sold-out performances, the concept gradually evolved into a recurring live production featuring collaborations with local artists and influences from multiple music genres.
This year’s event is expected to continue the tradition of energetic performances and crowd engagement when it takes place at GrandWest Arena on Saturday evening.
Comedy fans also have something to celebrate as veteran South African comedian Kurt Schoonraad returns with his one-man comedy show “Funny Side Up.” Following a successful run last year, the production is once again hitting the stage with updated material and fresh performances scheduled in Cape Town.
Schoonraad has built a reputation as one of South Africa’s most loved comedians through his relatable storytelling and observational humour. His performances often focus on everyday South African experiences, relationships, social behaviour, ageing and pop culture moments that audiences easily connect with.
The comedian also shares a deep history with Cape Town’s comedy scene, particularly through the Baxter Theatre, where he first performed his debut one-man production “Punchlines.” That performance played an important role in establishing his place within the country’s stand-up comedy industry.
This weekend, audiences can catch “Funny Side Up” at Café Roux on Friday evening as part of the city’s packed entertainment schedule.
Meanwhile, choir and vocal music enthusiasts are expected to gather for “Diva Pop 2.0,” a large-scale choral production featuring performances from CT Project Choir, Stadskoor and iKwayara. The show celebrates some of the biggest female pop stars in music history through reimagined choir arrangements and large ensemble performances.
The production will feature more than 50 voices performing songs inspired by artists ranging from Whitney Houston to Rihanna and Chappell Roan. Organizers say the show aims to deliver a celebration of confidence, vocal strength and emotional storytelling through music.
In addition to powerful group performances, audiences can also expect surprise solo appearances and modern musical arrangements designed to bring fresh energy to globally recognized pop hits.
“Diva Pop 2.0” will take place at Laerskool Jan Van Riebeeck on Friday and Saturday night, adding to what promises to be an exciting entertainment-filled weekend in Cape Town.
