British broadcaster Liza Tarbuck has announced she is stepping down from her Saturday evening programme on BBC Radio 2 after hosting the show for 14 years.

Tarbuck revealed the news in a message to fans on Instagram, describing the programme as a special place where listeners felt connected.

“We made two hours of radio feel like a private members’ club,” she wrote, thanking listeners for their support and saying it had been a privilege to host the show.

Temporary replacement announced

Radio presenter Shaun Keaveny, host of The Rock Show, will temporarily take over the Saturday evening slot until the end of March.

The station’s head of Radio 2, Helen Thomas, praised Tarbuck for creating a unique atmosphere for listeners each weekend.

“Every Saturday evening, Liza created a magical world for her audience,” Thomas said, adding that she would be greatly missed by colleagues and fans.

A long-running weekend show

Tarbuck had presented the Saturday programme between 6pm and 8pm since 2012. During that time, the show became a popular part of the station’s weekend schedule.

Responding to the announcement, Keaveny wrote that Tarbuck “stands among the greats” in radio broadcasting and praised her work on the programme.

In its announcement on Facebook, BBC Radio 2 said Tarbuck had decided it was time to “have her weekends back” after more than a decade of hosting the show.
