O’Kenneth’s album showcases growth, resilience, and Asakaa global influence

Ghanaian drill artist O’Kenneth has officially released his long-awaited album Came Of Age, representing an important chapter in his career. As one of the notable figures of the Asakaa movement, O’Kenneth uses said album, which consists of 18 tracks, to illustrate his progress and development, as well as where he has come from (Kumasi), and how he has achieved global recognition.

The project features an evolution in OKenneths sound, incorporating elements of raw drill with much deeper, more reflective lyrical content. In addition to the topics above, this album includes themes of ambition, loyalty, street experience, and personal change.

OKenneths signature calm, yet at the same time entertaining, delivery provides the listener with a glimpse into his mind each time he tells a story, contrasting street reality with reflective moments. This album also contains strong collaborations within the Asakaa collective, as OKenneth collaborated with Kwaku DMC, Chicogod, and 7ner on the album, demonstrating the Asakaa collectives unity and rapidly increasing prominence in Ghana’s drill scene.

In addition to the abovementioned themes, this project also includes such previously released tracks as Balenciaga and YIMAYƐ, which were instrumental in generating momentum for the release of this project. Moreover, the release of this album highlights Kumasi’s emergence as a leading creative centre for shaping the development of African drill and hip-hop music.
