Royal baby named in tribute to family and Portuguese heritage
Princess Eugenie has announced the name of her newborn daughter as Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.
The baby was born earlier this month in Lisbon, Portugal, weighing 6lb 9oz.
Meaning behind the name
Eugenie said the name honours three people the family “love and admire”, including Queen Elizabeth II.
She added that it reflects both English and Portuguese history, with the family living between Portugal and the UK.
Family of five
Adelaide is Eugenie’s third child with husband Jack Brooksbank.
She joins brothers August, born in 2021, and Ernest, born in 2023, who Eugenie said are already “the best big brothers”.
Place in royal succession
Adelaide, who is not a Royal Highness, is now 15th in line to the British throne, moving ahead of her great-uncle Prince Edward.
