Mekies rewarded for leadership

The Frenchman took charge in the summer of 2025 after Christian Horner was dismissed following 20 years leading the team.

Despite a difficult start to the 2026 season, Red Bull have improved their car, allowing Max Verstappen to secure dominant victories at the Malaysian and Singapore Grands Prix.

Red Bull shareholders back Mekies

Red Bull shareholders Chalerm Yoovidhya and Mark Mateschitz said Mekies had guided the team through a significant transition while maintaining its competitive identity.

They added that the extension reflected their confidence in his leadership and their ambition to build on the team’s recent progress.

Verstappen also commits to Red Bull

The announcement comes less than two months after Verstappen extended his contract with Red Bull until the end of 2030, following uncertainty over his future.

His recent victories came after former team principal Horner told The Times that Red Bull had “lost its mojo, its presence, its vibe”.

Mintzlaff praises Mekies’ impact

Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull’s chief executive responsible for corporate projects and investments, praised Mekies for combining technical expertise with strategic thinking and a strong understanding of the team.

He said continuity in leadership was essential for sustained success, highlighting the importance of teamwork, determination and competitiveness.

Mekies said he was proud to continue working with Red Bull and thanked the shareholders, management and team members for their trust. He also praised the team’s commitment to working together towards a common goal.
