The entertainer, known for his work as a television personality, radio host and performer, shared a deeply personal reflection on how achieving his dream of escaping poverty did not bring the complete happiness and peace he expected.

‘I was happier poor’

Somizi explained that his childhood was filled with love, warmth and happiness, even though his family did not have much money.

He said growing up poor never defined his happiness because of the strong family bond and joyful memories he had.

The star revealed that his lifelong dream was to break the cycle of poverty, a goal he eventually achieved after becoming one of South Africa’s most successful entertainers.

However, he admitted that life on the other side came with unexpected challenges.

“I grew up poor, from a family that was full of love, warmth. We were so happy that I even forgot I was poor,” he shared.

Somizi said that while he is now financially successful, he does not feel the same level of happiness he experienced as a child.

The pressure behind success

The celebrity explained that wealth comes with heavy responsibilities, including expectations from others, constant public attention and pressure to maintain his lifestyle.

He said many people see the glamorous side of fame but do not understand the emotional weight that comes with it.

According to Somizi, being successful has also affected his ability to trust people, as he often questions whether others genuinely care about him or what he can provide.

He admitted that protecting everything he has built has sometimes taken away his peace.

A call for change

Somizi revealed that his demanding schedule has left him feeling exhausted and searching for a different way of living.

From radio commitments and business responsibilities to travelling for performances, he said his current lifestyle has become overwhelming.

The entertainer said he feels the need to slow down and create a life that brings him more fulfilment, even though making that change may be difficult.

His honest reflection has sparked conversations about the reality of success, reminding fans that money and fame do not always guarantee happiness or inner peace.
