Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Tems has reached a new career high, becoming the first African female musician to record seven appearances on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Her latest single, “What You Need,” debuted at No. 93 this week, pushing her total entries on the prestigious chart to seven. The achievement places her level with fellow Nigerian star Burna Boy and South African rock band Seether, who also hold seven entries — the joint highest for African acts.
Tems previously set a historic benchmark in 2022 when she became the first African artist to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, following the release of “Wait For U,” her collaboration with Future and Drake.
Industry watchers expect her record to climb further, as “Bunce Road Blues” by J. Cole featuring Tems and Future is projected to enter the chart next week, potentially giving her an unprecedented eighth appearance.
