Conflicting accounts of Zuma’s health

MK Party officials said the former South African president was undergoing a routine medical check-up and remained in good spirits. They did not disclose further information about his condition. President Cyril Ramaphosa, however, told reporters that Zuma had been unwell and was receiving medical treatment. He also wished the former president a speedy recovery.

Ambulance reportedly took Zuma to clinic

Local media reported that Zuma was transported by ambulance to a medical clinic in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday. The circumstances surrounding his hospitalisation have not been fully explained.

Uncertainty over upcoming campaign events

Zuma’s health has raised questions about whether he will participate in the MK Party’s preparations for its manifesto launch in Mbombela. It remains uncertain whether he will attend a planned gathering in the Mtooba area on October 18, leaving questions over his role in the party’s upcoming campaign activities.

Zuma’s influence on the MK Party

Zuma served as South Africa’s president from 2009 to 2018 and later became a leading figure in the MK Party. Under his influence, the newly formed party secured third place in the 2024 national elections. His possible absence from campaign events could affect the party’s preparations as it works towards the upcoming local government elections.
