Afrobeats star Davido has spoken publicly following reports of a tense exchange during court proceedings related to the custody of his daughter, Imade.
Initial reports alleged that the singer had an outburst in court. However, Davido has rejected claims that he sought full custody, clarifying that his legal action was aimed solely at securing joint custody and shared parenting rights.
“I never asked for full custody… I asked for joint custody,” he stated on social media, adding that the situation should not be framed as a win or loss for either party.
According to Davido, tensions escalated when opposing counsel referenced his late son, Ifeanyi — a move he described as deeply hurtful and inappropriate. He said the mention of his deceased child triggered an emotional response and accused the lawyer involved of misconduct.
Despite the developments, Davido announced he has chosen to withdraw the custody case entirely, expressing hope that his daughter will one day understand his intentions.
His comments have generated widespread online reactions, with supporters expressing sympathy while others have called for both parties to prioritise the child’s well-being. The opposing legal team has yet to issue a response.
