Nigeria’s president vows tougher action after deadly Maiduguri attacks
Bola Tinubu has pledged to intensify security operations following a wave of deadly attacks in Maiduguri that left at least 23 people dead and more than 100 injured.
In a message posted on X, the president expressed condolences to victims and their families, stating that he stands in solidarity with the people of Borno State.
Tinubu said the government would step up efforts to dismantle armed groups across the country and praised troops for successfully repelling coordinated assaults on military positions in Maiduguri. He also approved additional military equipment and operational support to strengthen ongoing security efforts.
The president further ordered top security officials to relocate to Maiduguri to oversee response operations, while emergency agencies have been mobilised to assist victims.
The attacks targeted busy locations, including a market, a post office area, and the entrance to a teaching hospital. Authorities believe militants linked to Boko Haram may be responsible.
Security forces have secured the affected areas and launched investigations, as efforts continue to prevent further attacks in the region.
