An Iranian military spokesperson has mocked US efforts to broker a ceasefire, raising doubts over Washington’s proposed 15-point peace plan. Lt. Col. Ebrahim Zolfaghari, speaking on state television, dismissed claims by former US President Donald Trump that negotiations were ongoing, suggesting instead that the US was “negotiating with itself.”

Zolfaghari strongly rejected the possibility of any agreement, stating that Iran would not engage in talks with the United States. He described US strategy as a “failure” and warned against presenting setbacks as diplomatic progress.

Iran has previously maintained that it cannot negotiate with the US, citing past incidents where it claims attacks occurred during ongoing high-level discussions. The ongoing conflict, now in its fourth week, has resulted in thousands of deaths and triggered global economic concerns, including rising energy prices and inflation fears.

The remarks follow a US-backed proposal delivered to Tehran through intermediaries, including Pakistan, which has offered to host talks. However, Iran’s response signals limited willingness to engage, further complicating diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the crisis.
