The images, published by Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency, showed a damaged water storage facility in Bamani, Iran, alongside fragments that weapons experts identified as parts of a GBU-39 precision-guided bomb manufactured in the United States.

Experts Trevor Ball and N.R. Jenzen-Jones told CNN that the munition fragments shown in the images appeared consistent with components from the US-made bomb series. However, the reports noted that the findings could not be independently verified.

The damaged water reservoir was reportedly located in southern Iran and was geolocated by independent online researchers before being further confirmed by media investigations.

According to Iranian officials, the strike destroyed two concrete drinking water reservoirs with a combined capacity of 2,500 cubic metres.

Iranian media reported that the facility served at least 20,000 residents in the region.

Photos from the scene showed one reservoir with its roof collapsed and debris scattered around the site, while large water pipes connected to the damaged structure remained visible.

The United States recently launched strikes against Iran following escalating tensions and attacks involving US military assets in the region. However, it remains unclear whether the destroyed reservoir was directly hit during those operations.

US Central Command acknowledged awareness of the reports but said investigations into the incident were ongoing.

The alleged strike has sparked renewed concern over civilian infrastructure being affected during military operations. Water facilities are protected under international law, including the Geneva Convention.

Military analysts noted that the precision nature of the GBU-39 bomb makes accidental targeting less likely, although no official confirmation has been provided regarding the intended target.

The incident comes amid rising tensions between the US and Iran, with both countries exchanging strikes across the Middle East despite an earlier ceasefire agreement.
