Iran Blames US for Talks Collapse as Foreign Minister Meets Putin in Russia Visit
Iran’s foreign minister has accused the United States of derailing peace negotiations, saying Washington’s demands led to the collapse of ongoing talks.
Abbas Araghchi made the comments as he arrived in Russia for high-level discussions with President Vladimir Putin, with tensions escalating across the Middle East.
The diplomatic breakdown comes after US President Donald Trump cancelled a planned delegation trip to Pakistan for Iran-related talks, saying it would waste “too much time” as the conflict situation continues to evolve.
At the same time, violence has intensified in the region. Lebanon’s health ministry reports that Israeli strikes on Sunday killed at least 14 people, including two children and two women.
The Israeli military says one of its soldiers was killed and six others injured in a Hezbollah drone attack across the border in southern Lebanon, marking a further escalation in cross-border hostilities.
Meanwhile, global markets are reacting to the worsening instability. Oil prices have surged again as the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively disrupted, with Brent crude rising to $107.50 per barrel.
The Strait, a key global energy route, is central to global oil shipments, and ongoing tensions in the region continue to raise concerns about supply disruptions and further price volatility.
Diplomatic efforts involving Iran, the United States, and regional powers remain stalled as military exchanges and political tensions deepen across multiple fronts.
