Emtee has been released on bail following his recent court appearance, according to a statement issued by his management team after widespread media attention surrounding the case.
The award-winning rapper, whose real name is Mthembeni Ndevu, appeared before the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, June 11, where he was granted bail of R1000. His management later confirmed his release while stating that they would not comment further on the allegations as legal proceedings continue.
In an official statement shared through management representative Hlubi Radebe, the team emphasized the importance of allowing due legal processes to unfold without interference. Management also noted that the rapper remains focused on personal growth, his supporters and his music career despite the ongoing controversy.
According to reports, Emtee allegedly spent Wednesday night at the Midrand Police Station following claims that he violated a protection order previously filed by his estranged wife, Nicole Chinsamy, in 2023.
The allegations reportedly stem from an incident in which Emtee allegedly visited Chinsamy’s Midrand residence and grabbed a knife while she was bathing their daughter. The alleged confrontation has intensified public attention on the pair’s long-running and highly publicized relationship disputes.
The latest legal developments come shortly after Emtee made several emotional social media posts accusing Chinsamy of physically abusing him over the years. In the posts, the rapper claimed he had suffered repeated assaults and emotional trauma during their relationship.
Emtee also alleged that he had scars from the relationship and claimed he feared for his safety after allegedly discovering undisclosed activities involving Chinsamy. He insisted that he was not asking for financial help but rather for people to listen and understand what he was experiencing.
The couple’s troubled relationship has repeatedly made headlines over the past several years, with both parties publicly accusing each other of abuse and misconduct. In 2020, Emtee accused his then-wife of physically attacking him and claimed members of her family had threatened him.
At the time, Chinsamy strongly denied the allegations and accused the rapper of attempting to damage her reputation through false claims. She released a public statement rejecting the accusations and insisting that the truth behind their public fallout would eventually emerge.
In March 2023, Chinsamy herself opened an assault case against Emtee following allegations linked to a domestic dispute. However, she later withdrew the charges, explaining that she wanted to move forward for the sake of their children and family.
The latest developments have once again divided social media users, with many expressing concern for both parties while others urged the public not to rush to judgment until all legal facts are fully presented in court.
Supporters of the rapper have continued sharing messages of encouragement online following news of his release on bail. Meanwhile, critics have called for caution and stressed the importance of hearing both sides of the situation before drawing conclusions.
Over the years, Emtee has frequently spoken publicly about personal struggles involving mental health, relationships and pressures linked to fame and the music industry. His openness about his experiences has often generated strong reactions among fans and social media audiences.
Despite the controversy surrounding his personal life, Emtee remains one of South Africa’s most recognized hip-hop artists, known for hit songs that helped shape modern South African rap music. His legal matter is expected to continue through the courts as investigations and proceedings move forward.
