Despite the absences, England manager Thomas Tuchel has several options as he prepares his team for the semi-final in Atlanta.
Tuchel has not selected the same starting back four in consecutive World Cup matches so far, but he is considering keeping the defence that started in England’s quarter-final victory over Norway.
Ezri Konsa, John Stones, Marc Guehi and Nico O’Reilly impressed during the 2-1 win and Tuchel is believed to be pleased with their performance.
Rice expected to return after illness
England midfielder Declan Rice’s preparation for the Norway match was disrupted after he fell ill, raising concerns over his availability for the semi-final.
However, Rice trained fully on Tuesday and is expected to return to the starting lineup against Argentina.
His presence will be a major boost for England as they prepare for a difficult battle against the reigning world champions.
