Tebogo Thobejane Appears at Ex-Boyfriend’s Trial Over Alleged Hit Plot
South African actress and podcaster Tebogo Thobejane attended the Johannesburg High Court as the trial of alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala began, after he was accused of orchestrating an attack against her.
Matlala and four co-accused pleaded not guilty to 25 charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, illegal possession of firearms, money laundering and fraud.
Thobejane, who survived a shooting incident in 2023, watched proceedings from the public gallery. She later shared images and videos from court, reflecting on the difficult experience and thanking those who supported her.
She wrote that the incident changed her life and described her survival as a reminder of her strength and faith.
The actress also shared a throwback video showing the aftermath of the shooting, saying her story continued beyond the attack.
The state alleges that Matlala and his co-accused were involved in three separate hit plots between 2022 and 2024. The alleged targets included taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni, Thobejane and music producer Seunkie “DJ Vetteys” Mokubong.
Matlala appeared in court alongside alleged gunmen Musa Kekana and Tiego Floyd Mabusela, while his wife Tsakani Matlala and Nthabiseng Zandile Nzama are also accused in the case.
The charges against the group carry serious penalties, including possible life imprisonment for attempted murder convictions.
During the court appearance, Thobejane’s fashion choice also attracted attention online, with social media users debating her navy blue suit and overall appearance at the trial.
The high-profile case is expected to continue as prosecutors present evidence linking the accused to the alleged assassination attempts.
