Noah Lyles has once again proven his status as one of the world’s fastest sprinters after winning the men’s 100m at the US athletics championships with a world-leading time of 9.79 seconds.
The American sprint star delivered a dominant performance at Icahn Stadium in New York City, matching his personal best time from the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he won Olympic gold in the event.
Lyles’ victory also marked the fastest 100m time recorded in 2026, surpassing the previous world-leading mark of 9.82 seconds set by Jamaica’s Oblique Seville in June.

Following his impressive run, the 29-year-old said the performance was a reminder that he remains a major force in global athletics.
“I think I made that ‘I’m still the world’s fastest man’ statement,” Lyles said.

Former world champion Christian Coleman finished fourth with a time of 9.93 seconds.
Despite 2026 being an off year without an Olympic Games or World Championships, Lyles said he remains committed to performing at the highest level.
“Just because it is an off year doesn’t mean that I plan to run slow,” he said.

Richardson said she was pleased to be back in a stronger position mentally, physically and emotionally after facing challenges away from competition.
“It just feels phenomenal to be back in a better place,” Richardson said.
She added that the hard work she and her coach have been doing is beginning to produce consistent results.
