Vehicle crashes into attendees near Brandenburg Gate as emergency services respond during major Pride event
Berlin’s Pride celebrations were brought to an abrupt end on Saturday evening after a car drove into a crowd near the annual Christopher Street Day (CSD) event, injuring several people.
Berlin police said the incident happened in the city’s central Tiergarten park, close to the Brandenburg Gate, where hundreds of thousands of people had gathered for one of Europe’s largest Pride celebrations.
Emergency services treat injured attendees
Police confirmed on social media that officers and emergency responders were at the scene after a vehicle struck multiple people.
The number of injured people and the seriousness of their injuries were not immediately known.
Emergency teams provided medical assistance at the location as authorities secured the area and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Festivities interrupted after peaceful gathering
The Pride event had been taking place peacefully before the incident occurred, with large crowds attending celebrations in support of LGBTQ+ rights and equality.
Organisers and officials later called off the remaining festivities following the crash as emergency services continued their response.
