Catherine, Princess of Wales, has successfully completed the demanding Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for cancer care while highlighting the importance of supporting patients beyond medical treatment.
The endurance challenge involved climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours. The fundraiser was organised in support of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the hospital charity linked to the specialist cancer centre where the princess received treatment.
Reflecting on the achievement, Catherine described the challenge as an opportunity to “explore life beyond diagnosis” while giving back to those facing similar experiences.
The Princess publicly revealed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 and announced at the beginning of 2025 that she was in remission. Since then, she has gradually resumed her public duties while continuing to advocate for cancer awareness and patient wellbeing.
In a message shared after completing the challenge, Catherine explained that cancer affects far more than a person’s physical health.
She said the illness changes the way people think and feel, impacting every aspect of life. Drawing from her own experience, she stressed that recovery requires more than medical treatment alone.
The Princess used the occasion to raise awareness about holistic healthcare, encouraging greater support for patients’ emotional, mental and physical wellbeing throughout treatment and recovery.
She noted that every patient’s journey is different and that combining medical care with emotional and psychological support can help people maintain resilience and improve their quality of life during extremely difficult times.
The challenge saw Catherine climb Scafell Pike in England, Ben Nevis in Scotland and Snowdon, also known as Yr Wyddfa, in Wales, completing the demanding route over the weekend.
Upon finishing the final climb in Wales, she was welcomed by Prince William, their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as well as her parents Carole and Michael Middleton and her brother James Middleton.
The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity launched a fundraising campaign alongside the challenge to help expand access to holistic services for cancer patients, including therapies designed to support recovery and overall wellbeing.
Hospital chief executive Dame Cally Palmer praised the Princess for using her personal experience to raise awareness and support for cancer patients. She said the Princess’s compassion and dedication would help improve the lives of many individuals and families affected by cancer.
Catherine’s latest fundraising effort highlights her continued commitment to supporting cancer care while encouraging greater understanding of the challenges patients face during and after treatment.
