Having already secured top spot in Group J, Argentina rested several key players, including Messi, who started the match on the bench. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner entered the game in the 60th minute to a thunderous reception from the crowd.

Ten minutes from full-time, Messi delivered another moment of brilliance by curling a low free-kick around the wall and into the net, extending Argentina’s lead and adding another milestone to his legendary career.

The goal was Messi’s sixth of the tournament, putting him two goals clear in the race for the Golden Boot. It also marked his 19th FIFA World Cup goal, extending his all-time record, while becoming the first player ever to score in seven consecutive World Cup matches.

Argentina had taken the lead in the first half through Giovani Lo Celso, who fired a superb free-kick into the top corner. Lautaro Martínez doubled the advantage from the penalty spot after a VAR review awarded Argentina a spot-kick following a foul inside the box.

Jordan responded positively after the break, reducing the deficit through Mousa Al Tamari, who finished off a well-worked attacking move to give his side hope.

However, Messi’s introduction changed the atmosphere inside the stadium, with every touch drawing excitement from the fans before his trademark free-kick sealed the victory.

The result means Argentina head into the knockout stage with maximum points and strong momentum. They will face World Cup debutants Cape Verde in the Round of 32.

Jordan’s World Cup journey, meanwhile, comes to an end after failing to progress from the group stage despite a spirited performance.
