Jordan Jersey Sells for Record $14m
A signed Michael Jordan jersey worn during the 1998 NBA Finals has sold for $14 million (£10.6 million), setting a new record for basketball memorabilia.
Historic Finals Jersey Fetches Record Price
Jordan wore the Chicago Bulls jersey during Game Two of the 1998 NBA Finals, scoring a game-high 37 points. The basketball legend also signed the shirt, which dates from his final season with the Bulls. Chicago went on to win the championship series 4-2, securing Jordan’s sixth and final NBA title. He was named Finals Most Valuable Player on all six occasions he won the championship.
Basketball Memorabilia Records Broken
The sale surpasses the previous record for a basketball collectible, a card featuring Jordan and Kobe Bryant that fetched $12.9 million (£9.8 million) in 2025. It also exceeds the $12.3 million (£9.3 million) paid just two weeks earlier for another Jordan jersey worn during Game Three of the same 1998 Finals. That shirt was not autographed. The only sports memorabilia item reported to have sold for more is the jersey worn by baseball star Babe Ruth during the 1932 World Series, when he made his famous “called shot”. It fetched $24.1 million (£18.2 million) in 2024.
Private Sale Highlights Jordan’s Market Value
The latest purchase was made by Ron Firman, a Miami-based real estate investor, through a private transaction handled by Hunt Auctions. David Hunt, president of the auction company, said Jordan’s standing in the sports memorabilia market had grown to rival that of highly valued works of art. The record-setting sale highlights continued demand for items associated with major sporting achievements and some of the most celebrated figures in sports history.
