Speaking during a recent interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America, Long shared that what began as a health setback quickly became a life-threatening condition. She explained that she initially joined the highly anticipated tour, which also featured Kelly Rowland, despite already dealing with ongoing health challenges.

Long admitted that, in hindsight, she believes she should not have gone on the road at all. At the time, however, she felt compelled to continue due to personal pressures and commitments.

Her health struggles are not new. The singer, known for her hit “Hrs & Hrs,” was diagnosed with lupus in 2014. Over the years, she has spoken publicly about the autoimmune disease and the way it affects her daily life. Lupus can cause widespread inflammation and fatigue, and Long noted that environmental factors, including cold weather, can trigger severe flare-ups.

While on the Northeast leg of the tour, her condition worsened significantly after she developed pneumonia. Despite recognizing that her body was struggling, she initially attempted to continue performing. However, she eventually had to step away to focus on recovery.

Looking back, Long said her body had already been giving her clear warning signs. She described a point where even basic tasks became impossible, including getting out of bed in time for scheduled performances. At that stage, it became clear that continuing the tour was no longer sustainable.

After leaving the tour and returning home for Thanksgiving, her condition deteriorated rapidly. She was later hospitalized, where doctors delivered alarming news about the severity of her illness. According to Long, she was told she had only a short time left to live unless immediate action was taken.

Medical staff presented her with two options: enter hospice care or undergo a double lung transplant. The decision was overwhelming, especially given that her career depends heavily on her ability to sing and maintain vocal strength.

Long admitted that she initially struggled with the idea of such a major procedure. She worried about the impact it could have on her voice and future as a performer. However, she said her perspective changed when she considered her son and the importance of continuing to live.

Ultimately, she chose life and underwent the transplant procedure. Long described it as a decision driven by survival and family rather than career concerns, emphasizing that quality of life became the priority.

Now in recovery, the singer says she is doing significantly better. She revealed that she is currently six months post-operation and is showing no symptoms or infections. She described her recovery as smooth and said she is now attending her final medical appointments for ongoing care.

Following the transplant, Long also underwent vocal surgery and continues to receive follow-up treatment as part of her rehabilitation process. Despite the seriousness of her ordeal, she expressed gratitude for her progress and the care she received.

Reflecting on her experience, Long has encouraged others to prioritize their health and not push themselves beyond their limits. She emphasized the importance of rest, setting boundaries, and learning to say no when necessary, noting that self-care should never be postponed for the sake of external demands.

Her story stands as a powerful reminder of the hidden health struggles artists may face behind the scenes and the importance of listening to one’s body before it reaches a critical point.
