ACCRA — There is a dangerous precedent unfolding at the Manet area on the Spintex Road, and if left unchecked, it threatens to erode the sanctity of property rights in our nation. The Prayer Palace International Church, a respected institution, currently finds itself in a David-versus-Goliath struggle against a foreign national who, by all accounts, has turned a blind eye to the rule of law and basic community decorum.
The leadership of Prayer Palace, led by Prophet Emmanuel Adjei, has made their stance clear: the church acquired the land lawfully from the Numo Kofi Family of Teshie, the legitimate custodians of the land. Yet, despite holding valid documentation and seeking a peaceful resolution through established channels, the church is now allegedly facing brazen encroachment and the ominous presence of land guards—a menace that has long plagued Accra’s real estate landscape.

A Symptom of a Deeper Malaise
The situation at Prayer Palace is not an isolated incident; it is a symptom of a broader, systemic failure that continues to choke development and foster insecurity in Accra. Across the capital, land litigation has been weaponized into a “business model.” Unscrupulous actors, emboldened by a slow and often protracted judicial process, engage in multiple land sales, double documentation, and outright intimidation to force institutions and individuals into submission.
When foreign investors or any individual arrive in Ghana, they must be held to the highest standards of our laws. However, when we see instances where police directives are ignored and construction continues on disputed properties despite ongoing investigations, it signals a breakdown in authority that the “Seat of Government” can no longer ignore.
The Call for Action
The government has championed the “Year of Return” and sought to position Ghana as a beacon of stability for investment. Yet, how can we assure the world of our stability when our own institutions, including vibrant churches that serve thousands of congregants, cannot secure their own premises?

Time for talk has passed. The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Office of the President to intervene in the Prayer Palace matter immediately.
Justice must be swift, and it must be transparent. The state must demonstrate that no individual, regardless of their nationality or perceived influence, is above the laws of this land. If the authorities fail to protect the property rights of a peaceful religious institution today, they lose the moral authority to enforce the same rights for any other citizen tomorrow.
We urge the government to break the cycle of land litigation that is terrorizing our communities. Let the case of Prayer Palace be the turning point a decisive moment where the state says “enough” to land-grabbing, intimidation, and the disregard for our judicial systems.
Protect our institutions. Protect our land. Restore the rule of law.
