Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu Shrugs Off Online Trolls Ahead of 50th Stormers Cap
Stormers and Springbok flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu says he will not allow online criticism to distract him as he prepares to reach a major career milestone this weekend.
The 24-year-old is set to earn his 50th cap for the Stormers and has made it clear that social media “keyboard warriors” will not overshadow his achievement.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu acknowledged that he sees online comments but said they do not affect his mindset, stressing that performance and team expectations matter far more than public opinion.
He compared the level of scrutiny he faces to global football stars, noting that elite athletes across all sports deal with intense online pressure.
“It’s part of the job,” he said, adding that his focus remains on improving his game and delivering for his coaches and teammates.
While the player maintains a calm approach, Stormers director of rugby John Dobson has taken a more forceful stance against online abuse directed at players.
Dobson recently criticised fans who attack players from behind screens, especially following the team’s narrow 28–27 defeat to Toulon earlier this month, where Feinberg-Mngomezulu was singled out by some supporters.
He described the young flyhalf as a “generational talent” and emphasised the physical and mental demands placed on professional rugby players.
Dobson also highlighted concerns about player welfare, saying persistent online criticism has previously contributed to players like Manie Libbok leaving the club environment.
Despite the external noise, Feinberg-Mngomezulu continues to be viewed as one of South African rugby’s rising stars as he approaches another key milestone in his career.
