AFCON

The 37th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 has become the most widely watched tournament in the competition’s history.

Held in Morocco, the tournament recorded a 61% increase in global viewership, according to preliminary data from research firm Nielsen.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) said the surge was driven by record international media coverage and a significant expansion in broadcast partners. CAF’s collaboration with sports marketing agency IMG led to a 50% rise in broadcasters compared with the 2023 tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.

New broadcast agreements were secured in countries including Japan, China, South Korea, Mexico, Spain and Colombia, greatly expanding the tournament’s reach.

The AFCON final attracted millions of viewers worldwide, including more than three million in the United Kingdom and over four million in Germany. In Brazil alone, more than 24 million viewers tuned in during the tournament.

CAF also reported a 65% rise in media exposure for brand partners across Europe and South America, highlighting AFCON’s growing global appeal.
