Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, the “Sugarcane” hitmaker revealed that many musicians struggle to survive because performances often bring little or no financial reward.

According to him, there were times early in his career when he performed at major concerts alongside international artistes but received very low pay, which was sometimes delayed or unpaid entirely.

Camidoh criticised the lack of systems to support creatives, questioning the absence of accessible funding, royalties and proper monitoring of music played on radio stations.

He explained that musicians spend heavily on recording, promotion, videos and performances while receiving limited financial returns, making it difficult to sustain their careers.

The singer also urged Ghanaians to support creatives instead of constantly criticising them, noting that economic pressures can push some artistes into difficult situations.

Camidoh further highlighted the importance of private investors supporting the entertainment industry and praised initiatives contributing to Ghana’s creative arts sector.

Born Raphael Kofi Attachie, Camidoh gained international recognition with his hit song “Sugarcane” and remains one of Ghana’s leading contemporary music stars.
