Five Banyana Banyana Stars to Watch at the 2026 WAFCON
Banyana Banyana will head to Morocco determined to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) crown and secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
South Africa will compete at the 2026 WAFCON, taking place from July 26 to August 16, after head coach Dr Desiree Ellis named her final 26-player squad on July 17.
The defending champions have been drawn in Group B alongside Tanzania, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso, with a squad that blends experienced internationals and exciting young talent.
Here are five players expected to play key roles in South Africa’s title defence.
Thembi Kgatlana
When Banyana Banyana need a goal, Thembi Kgatlana is often the player they turn to.
